Schools in the Lower Hutt area can put forward the names of two students to receive the awards annually.
The students, their parents/guardians, appropriate staff, the principal and chariperson of the Board of trustees for the school are invited to the awards evening.
The awards evening is organised by Hutt City Council in early December and features a guest speaker and the mayor presenting the awards.
