Signage hiring and consents

If you need to close a road temporarily for a specific event, put up signage at election time or advertise an event you’ll find everything you need to know about each process right here.

Temporary advertising

If you need to put up a sign advertising an event that you are organising, you can either apply for a temporary advertising in consented locations or hire one of our sign boards.

Applying for temporary advertising

If you need to apply for an application for temporary advertising, you will find that part of the application form is an information sheet to help you in the preparation and placement of temporary signs. Maps referred to in the information sheet can be found below as one document, or you can download the individual maps that you are interested in.

Council signboards

We have four roadside signboards located throughout Hutt City, which can be hired on a weekly basis for community events.

Location of signboards

  • Ewen Bridge on the corner of Victoria & Railway Ave Intersection (A Side only)
  • Waione Street Bridge, Seaview
  • Fairway Drive, Avalon
  • Cambridge Terrace, Naenae

Signboards are defined as “A Side”, which are on the traffic direction side of the road and “B Side”, on the non-traffic direction side of the road.

Signboards can be hired either individually or as a set. There are four A Side signboards and three B Side signboards. (Three of these are double-sided)

We are unable to take bookings for events that are not confirmed. You can book a minimum one-week period for one event/programme. Booking periods of more than two weeks are by negotiation with Hutt City Council.

Production of a signboard

We also produce the signboard for you. The requirements for us to produce this are available in the booking form. It would be useful for us to receive the following details with your application:

  • Website address (if any)
  • Event date and time
  • Contact information
  • Wording, logo or any other graphics

Signboard design is at the discretion of Hutt City Council. If you require a special design/colour, you must specify this at the time of booking. Producing a special design may incur additional costs.

All signboards are 2.4m wide x 1.2m high and digitally printed on Coreflute material. Other materials and options are available at an additional cost.
