Answering your property queries

Find out about our online property enquiry system, order a land information memorandum (LIM) online, and find out about the other types of property information we can provide.

Searching for property information

If you visit the consents counter at the council building at 30 Laings Rd, there are several ways you can search for property information.

  • Search online at the council - You can search online using our property enquiry system which is available on public computers at the council building
  • Request over the counter or phone -You can ask for a property search or a search of building records and plans
  • Apply for a LIM - You can ask for a Land Information Memorandum (LIM)
  • Get a Certificate of Title - You can get a copy of a Certificate of Title and any documents listed on the title

What will the property search information include?

A property search provides a list of permits and consents that have been issued for the property.

A property search may include:

  • A site plan
  • Approved building plans
  • Plumbing and drainage plans
  • Foundation/structural details
  • Floor plans and elevations

There is no charge for using our online property enquiry system to search and view property information.

Ordering a Land Information Memorandum (LIM)

You can get a LIM that gives you information that the council holds on your property.

A LIM includes:

  • Copies of any plans of the house, alterations/additions and code compliance certificates that are held by Hutt City Council
  • Copies of building consents and resource consents that have been issued
  • District Plan information such as activity areas/zones, protected trees, historic sites, designations and significant archaeological or cultural resource areas
  • Other land information such as flooding, slipping, erosion, past contamination
  • Rates information

How much does it cost?

How long does a LIM take?

LIMs are completed within 10 working days (not including the day of application).

Apply for a LIM

Apply online

You can apply for your LIM online. If you apply for your LIM online, you will need to pay by Visa, MasterCard or bank card.

Read and accept the terms and conditions by clicking the 'I Agree' button.

In some cases it may not be possible to uniquely identify a property. We recommend that you apply for a LIM in person if there is any uncertainty about the property you are viewing on-screen.

We will start work on the LIM request as soon as we have received payment of the fee.

Getting the LIM

The LIM is a paper report that must be either be collected by you or posted to you. It cannot be sent by email.

Getting a Certificate of Title

When do I need one?

A current copy of a Certificate of Title for each property is required for all resource consent applications and most building consents (except minor works building consent applications).

Getting a copy

You can get a copy from the consents counter at the council building on Laings Road for $15.00. You can also get a copy of any interests on the title such as a covenant, consent notice, easement or lease for $15 each.
