Before you make an application
Before you apply for a Certificate of Hygiene for a food premises that is being transferred, you need to make sure you have met consent, building consent and trade waste disposal requirements. Depending on your requirements, you may need us to inspect the premises before you make an application. We recommend that you make an appointment to get in touch with us first.
Check if your planned structural or plumbing changes require inspection
If you are planning to make structural changes or intending to change how the building is used, you will need the building to be inspected. Contact our building team to help you with this.
Get your trade waste sorted before you apply
Our trade waste team can help you make sure that your new premises have a grease trap. The premises may also have specific trade waste requirements.
Think about a liquor licence
If you are planning to sell and supply liquor at your new food premises, you will need to apply for a licence. Check to see how you apply for a liquor licence.
Are you changing the name of the premises?
If you are changing the name of the premises a new Certificate of Hygiene will be need to be issued.

- When you are ready to make an application, you will need to fill in the following form:
Transfer of Certificate of Hygiene (PDF 140kb)
- Along with your application form make sure you submit any Code of Compliance Certificate you may have received as part of this application
- Trade waste consent you may have received as part of this application
- Submit the appropriate fee for your application. We will advise you of the correct amount prior to applying
- Arrange an inspection with us
Once the application is processed, a Certificate of Hygiene will be sent to you.
