Funding criteria and priorities – what we’re looking for
If you’re a group or an individual and want to start a project that involves any form of creative and interpretative expression then it may be eligible for funding.

What are we looking for in an application?
We are looking to support cultural and arts projects that:
- Have an arts focus
- Meet one or more of the three funding criteria (see below)
- Will be completed within 12 months after the funding is approved
- Take place in Hutt City and are of primary benefit to Hutt City residents and local communities
- Have not started before funding is approved (before 30 April 2012)
- Have not already been funded by Creative New Zealand for the same purpose
What are our key criteria?
The scheme has three criteria for funding assistance. Your project should meet at least one of the following criteria.
Does your project offer:
- Broad community involvement
The project will create opportunities for our local community to engage with and participate in all arts activities
- Diversity
The project will support the diverse arts and cultural traditions of local communities, enriching and promoting their uniqueness and cultural diversity
- Young people
The project will enable and encourage young people (under 18 years) to engage with and actively participate in the arts
The purpose of funding – what we will and won’t fund
What types of projects/activities will we fund?
We’ll fund projects and activities such as:
- Exhibitions, productions, concerts, festivals, workshops and presentations that offer opportunities for community involvement in the arts
- Activities that support the traditions and arts of ethnic communities
- Youth arts events
- Artist-ideas projects involving local communities
- Materials for arts activities or programmes
- Personal costs for one-off, short term projects
- Promotion and publicity of arts activities to communities
Types of projects/activities that cannot be funded include
We won’t fund project/activity costs that go towards:
- Activities that are not arts focused
- Activities that are the direct responsibility of schools or other educational institutions
- Ongoing administration costs not related to a specific project
- Projects that are the core business of an organisation or service provider
- Retrospective project costs (for projects already started or completed)
- Catering costs of an event
- Fundraising activities
- Developing facilities, such as gallery lights, stage curtains or building restoration
- Buying capital items, such as computers, cameras or musical equipment

- Naenae Computer Clubhouse - towards skill based workshop with a film tutor
- Hiria Te Rangi - towards delivery of 6 - 8 free dance workshops for the community
- Polish Assocation - towards the Polish festival
