Our City

Wingate

Wingate is a neighbourhood of smart export businesses working together to maintain a global reach with their products and services.

Export partners over the back fence

Ten percent of the region’s city-based manufacturers are established in the Wingate area, including a high proportion of export-focused manufacturers.

There are opportunities for further development, with warehouse and manufacturing space and small industrial buildings available. Start-ups and smaller, smart businesses have taken advantage of Wingate's available space and the neighbourhood feel to doing business.

Businesses are finding useful partners over the back fence to help create smarter products for their export markets. Local networking adds to the competitive advantage of each business.

Wingate has immediate access to rail links and two major highways, with an international airport and a major port each less than 30 minutes' drive away.

What makes Wingate an ideal location

Wingate has become a shining example of what can be achieved when motivated businesses work together. We’ve pitched in over the past seven years to upgrade the streetscape with plantings and enhancement of roads and reserve areas. Wingate’s business community is keen to continue this and has plans in place for more beautification and collaborative projects.

With five international offices across Australia and China, the Managing Director of fire alarm exporter Pertronic Industries, David Percy, explains what keeps their production and design base in Wingate: “Hutt City businesses have a reputation for innovation, we are able to tap into a good skill base. There’s a very talented pool of people here.”

Fraser Engineering is connected to its neighbourhood as much as to the wider world. Managing Director Martin Simpson pitches the local talent as its key support network, and the local lifestyle and community as a magnet for leading designers and engineers.
