Petone Foreshore

Great for a picnic, a walk or your sport of choice, Petone foreshore has everything you need for your recreational activities, with plans for an indoor facility currently underway!

Getting to know Petone Foreshore

The Foreshore has a range of developed and undeveloped environments that families can enjoy.

Extending from State Highway Two to the Hutt River, it includes:

  • Korokoro Gateway (owned by Tenths Trust)
  • The Petone Wharf
  • 1000 Hands Park
  • Lions Park
  • McEwen Park
  • Hikoikoi Reserve

The Petone Wharf was built in 1883 by the Gear Meat Company, initially used to load and unload ships coming and going from the Gear Meat Works. We acquired the wharf and it’s now used for recreational purposes and occasionally for ferry transport.

The beach is groomed over the summer period and is safe for swimming in most places. There’s no patrol in place, though, so please watch your children!

A swimming raft is anchored off Oriental Street from Labour Weekend until Easter.

The Lions Park playground is popular with children of all ages, as is the Lions Park Model Railway, which operates on Sundays between 1pm and 4pm in clear weather.
